Saint Petersburg has hotels of all kinds. The hotel market in Saint Petersburg is well-developed and meets the demands of different categories of tourists. The guests of the city are free to choose an accommodation which satisfies their requirements: from affordable hostels to luxurious 5-star hotels.

There are about 1200 hostels, mini-hotels, and apartments in Saint Petersburg. Recently, hostels and mini-hotels have become increasingly popular. That is not surprising as they offer affordable prices and are located in the central districts of the city.

How To Book Accommodations In Saint Petersburg

Thanks to the internet, travellers can book a hotel in Saint Petersburg as in any other city in the world — via booking sites. Which are the best of them?

These are 3 sites I use whenever I need to book accommodations:

  • Booking.com Booking is my favourite site for finding accommodations. It offers everything a traveller may need for making a choice: hotel descriptions and multiple photos, guests’ reviews, maps, and prices. I never had issues with booking.com: prices and information on hotels are always correct.
  • Agoda.com Agoda is another great site for online bookings. The best thing about Agoda is that it often offers discounts. For instance, there are flash deals (discounts for some hotels) and coupons for extra discounts.
Thus, before you book any accommodation, I highly recommend comparing prices on both booking.com and agoda.com. You may be able to save a substantial amount of money.
  • Hostelworld.com If you prefer to stay in hostels, Hostelworld is the right site for searching hostels throughout the world (including Russia). Hostelworld provides plenty of information on hostels’ locations, facilities, house rules, and prices.

    To sum up:
  • Booking hostels — Hostelworld
  • Booking hotels — Booking
  • Checking for hotel discounts — Agoda

Best Districts To Stay In Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is a big city. So, first of all, I’d advise booking hotels in the central part of Saint Petersburg. If you are short of time and spend only a few days in the city, staying in the centre of the city will save you a lot of time. In this case, you won’t waste much precious time on transportation.

The historical centre of Saint Petersburg is a very pleasant area for pedestrian walks. Moreover, it has all that tourists may need for their comfort: museum and places of interest, parks and embankments, plenty of cafes and restaurants, railway stations, night clubs, shops, etc.

Keep in mind that the centre of Saint Petersburg is quite large. I would recommend booking hotels/hostels to stay in one of those districts of Saint Petersburg:

  • Central (Tsentralny) District
  • Admiralteysky District
  • Petrogradsky District
  • Vasileostrovsky District.

Public transportation in the city is good. However, if you book a room in one of these districts, most attractions will be accessible even if you walk on foot. Besides, the architecture of the districts is worth being seen. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful mansions, avenues, parks, and churches.

As said above, Saint Petersburg has more than 1000 hostels and hotels, and it may take you some time to compare their locations, reviews, and prices. That is why I have already chosen best-rated (by guests) accommodations with good locations and reasonable prices.

I Divided Accommodations Into 3 Groups:

  • HOSTELS. The prices for this type of stay are much more affordable than in hotels. In addition, it’s a great opportunity to meet other travellers and to find travel friends.
  • HOTELS. I have chosen mini-hotels and apartments located close to the main must-see places of Saint Petersburg. As to me, those are the best choice for reasonable travellers. Generally, mini-hotels and apartments are the most comfortable accommodations. They often offer larger rooms than usual hotels, its own kitchen, and a private bathroom. At times, they offer the ability to accommodate a family or group of friends. The price is usually lower than in hotels.
  • LUXURY HOTELS. Luxury hotels are expensive but definitely the best of the best. Not only because of the great service or location. Each of those hotels has its own fascinating history and stunning interiors. While living in one of the luxury hotels in Saint Petersburg, you will certainly feel like you are a member of the royal family.

Important!
Keep in mind that the peak tourist season in Saint Petersburg lasts from May to September.
Think of booking hotels and hostels in advance if you want to visit the city during these months. Thus you will be able to choose hotels with the best location, prices and services.
